Welcome

Here in Putney we are at the very beginning of winter’s transition to spring. Although snow still covers the ground, today’s sunshine sent water dripping from the eaves of the barn and reminded us that maple sugar season is fast approaching.

Inside the barn, we are hard at work reading student applications during one of our busiest enrollment years in history. We’ve been amazed at how quickly many units are filling, so please don’t hesitate to check in with us to confirm that the program that interests you remains available. Here is a link to all of Putney’s dates and tuitions so you can see the full range of opportunities for summer 2008, including an extra unit of Putney Foundations in Costa Rica for 7th and 8th graders which we’ve added for this summer

We’ve been so busy traveling and working that we’ve decided to celebrate this winter’s great snowfall with a ski day at Stratton on Wednesday, March 5th. Karen is back from Senegal, Britt from Costa Rica and Spain, Joseph from Argentina, Kelsey from Ghana and Ecuador, Harry from China, Jim from Vietnam and Cambodia, Jeff from Rwanda, and all of us from our slideshows around the country…So we’ve decided to close the office on Wednesday, March 5th when each and every one of us will be out on the mountain.

In this newsletter you will find information about our programs in China this summer leading up to the Olympics; a message from Cori Bernat, creator and teacher of the Food and Culture course at Excel Amherst; and a note from Harry Kahn on the many opportunities for pick up games of soccer, basketball, ping pong and other sports during a Putney program.

We hope that you will join us this summer!

All our best wishes from Putney
